ANALYSIS CONDITIONS

  1. Research Topic (Abstract)

The poverty assessment study in St. Lucia, conducted in 1994, consisted of two aspects, the national Survey of Living Conditions and a series of Community Level Situational Analyses (CLSAs). The national survey  aimed primarily at (i) developing poverty lines, (ii) providing national estimates of poverty, and (iii) providing demographic and socio-economic data especially with respect to the poor.

The Community Level Situational Analyses (CLSAs), through surveys of ten communities and through qualitative research, sought to obtain information that would assist in the development of programmes at the community level that would facilitate the eradication or reduction of poverty.  In each community 30 households were randomly selected.
